Trade Secrets is the story of my life both in and out of politics.

It covers my childhood in Shanghai and on a stump ranch in the Kootenays, my career as a journalist and my Arctic adventures as a businesswoman.

And then came politics as an MP, Cabinet Minister and Senator. Most journalists remain journalists, or move into a related field such as public relations. Instead, I wrote myself into a new world. Like Alice in Through the Looking Glass, I walked through the mirror and found my political passion, politics, and the rest of my life. And like Alice, I discovered that what I had seen in the looking glass seemed much the same, but once I had crossed into Looking Glass House everything looked quite different.
