COASTAL PARLIAMENTARIANS

BC's Coastal Parliamentarians is an all-party, all-partisan group, which includes all of the federal and provincial representatives of British Columbia’s tidewater communities, as well as federal and provincial cabinet ministers, party critics and members of legislative committees, such as Fisheries. The group was formed in 1998 out of a mutual desire to exchange views and concerns relevant to B.C.'s coastal communities.
The Coastal Parliamentarians gather each year at the annual Conference of Coastal Communities, hosted by the Coastal Community Network. These meetings provide an important venue for coastal parliamentarians to address issues that have affected the region and to bring forward problems that concern the mayors and councillors, tribal councils and chiefs.
The Coastal Parliamentarians’ last meeting took place at the 2006 Conference of Coastal Communities in Richmond. A group of fifteen Parliamentarians and representatives of the coast’s regional districts met to discuss issues including:

The Chair of the Coastal Parliamentarians is Conservative MP Dr. James Lunney (Nanaimo-Alberni), and Liberal MLA Valerie Roddick (Delta South) is the group’s Vice-Chair.
