Welcome to the Fog Alarm Building in the new Gulf Islands National Park Reserve located at the site of the famous East Point Lightstation over-looking the boundary waters between Canada and the United States.

FAB is the future site of the Saturna Island Discovery Centre, which will be operated by volunteers from the .Saturna Heritage Committee who are interested in our island and marine heritage. The site is leased from Parks Canada by the Capital Regional District under the auspices of the Saturna Parks and Recreation Commission.

Volunteers hope to restore the unique fog horn facility, built in l938 and scheduled for demolition, for community use and exhibit space featuring the rich local and maritime history of this southern-most Canadian Gulf Island.

Saturna Island was named for the Spanish schooner Santa Saturnina under the command of Spanish navigator Jose Maria Narvaez y Gervete who was the first European to explore these waters in l791, a year before British surveyor Captain George

Vancouver aboard the HMS Discovery charted the site of Canada’s third largest city.

The East Point Lightstation was built in 1888 when the barque John Rosenfeld, carrying a large shipment of coal ran aground on Boiling Reef off East Point. The lightstation operates as an important part of our marines safety net but the original tower has been removed and replaced with an automatic light tower .
